Buying A New Car Online

Has anyone here bought a new car online? I'm helping a family member buy a car but I'd rather not sit in the dealer's desk for 3 hours trying to negotiate. We already know what car to buy.

I know it can be done but I just don't know how.

There is a way to submit offers to new car dealers online. I don't know how it's done and I'm hoping someone here could tell me how. :)

We're trying to get a Lexus RX330 for my sister in-law.

lots of dealerships on ebay sell cars-my old roomate got a jeep on ebay from florida and flew down with a one way ticket and drove the jeep back and got an awesome deal.

lexus is the way to go!! i had an is300 sport hybrid and i LOVED it. it was a speed demon. good luck with the purchase...

instead of the 330, get the 400h...my dream car. also, jessica alba supports it :)

True! eBay has a lot of good deals especially on higher end used cars.

i wouldnt, i would want to see my car in person, and look over every inch of it before i signed a single thing!!

also to get a feel for how it runs, etc.

now, with that said...i know places like CarMax, maybe some others where you can find the car you want online, and you can request that they will transport it to your local carmax so you can get a better look at it. (i think thats how it works?)

I wouldn't either! I sold cars for 3 years before getting into law enforcement, and I would highly recommend against making a decision over the Internet without seeing the car first!

It is really easy to go to a dealership and tell them you'll give them invoice for the vehicle (if your buying a new one). Tell them you want to see the invoice. Having outside financing from a credit union is always best, and don't tell them you have a trade till the end of the deal!

Im glad this thread came to be. I FINALLY got my crappy Stratus paid off, so I have started looking into trucks. I will probably buy one in july/august. I also know pretty much what I want. Ebay has some really great deals, but I am also worried about not physically seeing the vehicle in person first...

It's a little difficult to offer invoice to high end car dealers since they control the market in my area. I've been turned down a few times on offers above invoice.

I just found a way to submit offers without going to the dealership. I'll try and see if this works.

in our area...if your looking for a Toyota or Honda...there are a half dozen dealerships of each to choose from...same goes for higher end vehicles. The Philadelphia area and suburbs is crazy as far as dealerships bending over backwards to earn business. All goes out teh window with a used car. Threaten to go to another dealership if they don't want to "earn" your business.

Just an example. I live in montgoemry County which is arguably the richest county in PA. Our District Attorney got "taken" last year by buying a classic car online! So buyer beware!!!

I did this once and what you have to do is get the email address for a few different dealers in your area, then emai lthem all at once. Make sure that it is only one email that you send out, then tell them that you will buy the car from whoever has the best deal. Then you can widdle it doew to 2, at that point you will have to go back and forth saying dealer 1 says the price is XX then go to the second dealer and see if they will beat it. Do this as much as you feel comfortable. I got my car down $5000, yes thousand, doing this.
