I picked this guy up from my LFS a few days ago and they were absolutely certain (based on where their supplier is from) that he is a Caribbean species from the Scorpaena genus but I am convinced that he is actually from the Scorpaenopsis genus from the Pacific. Does Scorpaenopsis macrochir seem right? Ive just never seen a Scorpaena with such a squat body and wide head. Help please!

Looks like a variety of stonefish, much more commonly collected, and yes from the pacific, indo, and even into aussie. Real ID gets rather murky but you are correct about it not looking from the scorpaena.
