when I first got him, he was a lighter color and thought he was a mocha, but as he got older, he got a lot more darker. I looked up some images of mochas and I feel like they didn't match and I'm just not sure anymore, can anyone help? 😅

I think it is a Black photon. It is a cross between a Black Ocellaris and an Onux percula. They are orange as a juvenile but black as an adult with orange face and orange pelvic and anal fins with orange belly

That’s a beautiful fish.

agreed, I love him so much. his personality is so close to an orange cat and sometimes his dorsal fin sticks up above the water and I like to think he's pretending to be a shark 😂

It's getting harder and harder with all these crossbreeds and variations. But I agree with OrionN. Looks like black Photon.

I don't think its a photon, looks like a mocha to me. Reason I dont think its a mocha, not many breeders pairing onyx with occy.. not much of a point.. you will however get mochas from storm/ davicini pairings all day long.

Black Photon (not mine) just internet pictures.
Young, not fully developed

Full adult just black orange and white.

Nice looking clown!

The photons typically don't develop, the predominately black pelvic find that early on. Typical trait of Mochas.

That same site has a fish called a chocolate clownfish:

which is the fish I typically associate with a mocha (overall brownish color, not black, doesn't have orange):

Now I'm questioning what the correct name is. Is it mocha, caramel, and/or chocolate?

I was originally going to vote "Photon" I'm no longer sure.

I would vote mocha or fancy ocellaris, could be any of the clowns mentioned above but mocha clowns do turn darker with age like yours.
