I'm planning of getting the female bellus angelfish and will be keep one in the tank only.

As I like the coloration of female and do not wish she will turn into a male.

Anybody able to share your experience that genicanthus angelfish turned into male even alone in the tank?

In most cases it will stay female but any aggression or dominant standoffs may cause a change.

My bellus female changed to male after about 3 years or so but it also has daily standoffs with my female watanabei...........they just pose but never really fight. I believe the actual change got triggered by a Rhomboid super male who kept challenging & fighting my bellus.

I eventually had to move the Rhomboid as he was getting his butt kicked and wouldn't quit.

If it does go male it's not the end of the world..........the males are beautiful. I've never seen a picture that does them justice.

Had a trio of Watanabei females.
When the bully Purple Tank went one turned male.
I don't mind but now he is the boss.

I’ve had female Genicanthus angels change to male without another Geni female in the tank... I’ve also had a female Bellus change to male when another F bellus was introduced, BUT when a F Lamarck changed to male and grew larger than the M Bellus, the M Bellus reverted back to female colors!
Fine by me because I don’t really like the look of the M Bellus
