I've got some algae that seems to have started growing at the base of my toadstool.

Awaiting on some new WaveMakers as I've already realized I need more flow in the tank.

Is there anything wrong with brushing the base with a soft bristle toothbrush? I'd rather do this than a turkey baster if it's safe to do so.

Sure, be gentle.
Time to time they get a skin and shed it off which will also clear it.

This is the first time I've seen algae on the base of it as I've had it over 2 years now so it's a bit strange that it just cropped up all of a sudden.

Well strange except that my PO4 has crepped up due to vacations and work trips haha
