I noticed the last couple days that a purple algae has started growing on some of my rockwork and coral. I used a brush and a lot of the stringy stuff came off. I used a turkey baster to blow the stuff off my coral. However there is this purple stuff growing on my gsp and it is pretty tough. It is growing on the frag plug and also growing on the frag plug of my zoa. What is it and how do I get rid of it?

I cant tell what algae is in the 1st photo but the 2nd photo is cyanobacteria. Chemiclean gets rid of it very fast, just make sure it wont kill anything else in your tank

Is it harmful to my coral? It doesn't seem to be bothering my gsp at all. There was a slimy layer that I was able to brush/blow off.

How old is your tank? Can you share the parameters? Do you have powerheads in the tank?
My tank is about 3 months old, 32 gallon biocube. I have a random flow head for my return water, and one 1050 gph power head.
As of Saturday my parameters were
Salinity: 1.024
Alk: 9
Ph: 7
Pho: .08
Nitrates:7

Edit: some of it was cyano which I was able to brush/blow off, but im now realizing the purple mat is just my gsp, I just dont remember it being that purple before.

“Some of it was cyano, I was able to easily brush/blow it off, but whatever this is, is really stuck on.“

Help me understand “whatever this is”. In your second picture, describe the blue & red circled area. Are they the same?

I see plenty pink coralline algae
