Can I rely on Dr. Reef alone for quarantine?

If you read the Dr. Reef guarantee it says not to do another quarantine. That will void the guarantee. It recommends a 14 day observation then placing into display tank.

Tell that to my dead tangs and multiple other fish that caught flukes from diamond gobies addition…

Again flukes seem to be passing through prazipro. So hyposalinity is what I’ll be doing on any future fish order regardless of Dr. Reef or anyone.

I’ve read several glowing reviews of Dr. Reef’s Quarantined Fish. Having read their quarantine practice prior to shipment, it’s clear that I can come nowhere close to what they do to assure that the animals are healthy. I can only afford a very small quarantine tank. What are your opinions on just relying on Dr. Reef’s protocol and foregoing a second quarantine in my little tank?
Make sure to ask if the fish you want are do well or not. He will tell you which ones don't do well. It has been very helpful to me.

Save your tiny QT for inverts or coral. Get the fish pre-quarentined.

I've not had any sick fish from Dr Reef. A couple of DOA, a female tank raise mandarin that disappeared day 2 (maybe mantis food), and a damsel that died a day later.

But all that transitioned into the tank have shown no disease evidence, and I personally would not do extra isolating or QT unless there is a very special case..

Same here but through the Affordable Aquaria branch.

The ones that made it past the mysterious death phase have all been healthy and disease free (as far as I can tell).

Mixed reviews for me. I've had some issues with sending the wrong fish and anthias come in pretty thin. I've had fish a few last less than a week and some I still have over a year later. Good luck getting a bonded pair of anything. I still order from them but the overwhelming support here is in my opinion is to be taken with a grain of salt. If you are looking for true quarantined fish go with Fish Hotel or TSM Aquatics.

Why not just quarantine yourself instead of spending extra for someone else to do it?

If I purchased any Fish from Dr. Reef, I would do the 14 Day observation in a Tank like a 40 Gallon Breeder to make sure they are feeding. Putting an already thin Fish in a DT with Fish that have established territories is a recipe for disaster. And trying to catch a struggling Fish in a Coral heavy DT before it's too late is a challenge. Thin Fish seem to be a common theme in this thread.

I can answer for me:

I have neither the equipment, the time, nor the knowledge to do a QT myself. I view it like hiring other experts in life. It often makes sense.

I realize that. But I believe that some people are saying that flukes made it through dr. Reef quarantine and said they will do further treatment. So I wondered why not just do all the treatment and save the extra fee? Dr. Reef says any further quarantine treatments more than 14 day observation will void his guarantee.

I understand, but that doesn’t change my ability to do it properly. I don’t do further treatment.

Do you put directly into the display or do you use some sort of acclimation box in the display when adding a pre quarantined fish?

We are not perfect. We have our share of problems and issue like any company. We dont hide and give run around when it comes to issues.
Flukes had been an issue we had and we are overcoming it. There are some flukes out there that are prazi resistant. We changed our protocol due to some peoples complaints and we will continue to change as long its we have the feedback. End goal is to provide healthy fish to our clients.
Anyone that bought from us and had reported an issue, we didnt ask them a million questions or run around, we got to the root of the issue and replaced entire livestock in many cases even if they didnt purchase some of the fish from us.
We move a lot of fish and if there was an issue with a single batch, internet will light up with hundreds of customers having the same issue reported all over. You wont find that. There are isulated incidents and in which some of it is our fault and some added non qted livestock in their tanks from other sources. Truth is always in the middle.
Rest assured if your tank has livestock related issue from our fish, you will find us helpful, caring and understanding. willing to work on ridding the problem and replacing anything and everything at no cost to you. Thats our guarantee.

Note: Please report any issues like mentioned in this thread about skinny fish or losing fish after few days etc. Unless you tell us we cant replace them. Trust me we do replace them for free in most cases without any harsh questioning.
Anyone that reported lost fish in this thread, please screenshot your post and send us email at [email protected] and we will replace them for you even though much time might have past. We want you to be happy with your purchase.

Regarding that void of guarantee:
Once the fish leaves our facility and customer starts to subject them to harsh treatments, how do we know if the fish dies, was it our fault or theirs, Also they may be qting fish from other sources in the same tank. Maybe other source brought some disease in but our fish was first to rub and scrath, Automatically clients think its because of our failed process. There are many other situations like this where its hard to pin point where the fault is.
If its us we wanna know its us. Thats why we recommend 14 days observation so if its our fault you can fully blame us and we can fully admit and remidy and replace.

I add direct to the display, but in some scenarios that I have not encountered, I might use a box to reduce fighting.

We dont try to make a quick sale, If something is hard to qt or doesnt do well, we are the first to tell the customer, its not a good choice, maybe change it or delete it.
We could just send the fish, make money and let it be customers problem if it lives or not, but in our moral conscience we couldnt do that to anyone.

At one point my tank was entirely stocked with fish from Dr. Reef. There was one issue with flukes before but it was minor enough and caught early that I was able to treat it with no issues. I've definitely had some losses since then whether it be DOA or just some fish not making it through after a little while but I wouldn't hesitate ordering through them again. Even with the time difference they're been pretty prompt with communicating throughout the delivery and acclimation process. My clowns (bonded and successful in raising fry), butterfly, and banggais have been going strong for well over two years now. Notable losses were a flame angel, longnose butterfly, and firefish but nothing that I would attribute to disease.

They also do not hesitate to replace in case of DOA or shipping issues, you just have to be sure to remain in contact and keep them notified.
