Can I use 1 24" 48 x3W over a 75 gal

I'd say no but I guess it depends on the optics used and what you are trying to keep. To get enough spread you'd have to have the fixture raised quite a bit and you'd be losing light intensity otherwise the ends of the tank would be dim. What fixture are you looking at, maybe some with some experience with that fixture can comment.

I'm running somethign similar over my wife's 75, but I used two 12" heat sinks and (40) 3W crees. She got a mixed tank (mostly softies and LPS, but several decent sized SPS colonies of the Monti variety).

Is that 20 3w per 12" heatsink
