Can I use store bought distilled water ?

I’m in a pinch and can’t make it to the lfs to get RODI. Can I use store bought distilled water for my top off? If so, what brands have been used ? Thanks.

Sure you can. I would not think that any brand is better, probably comes from the same manufacturer.

Yes...I do sometimes (for over 40 years LOL)....I just buy the store brand.../cheapest....good in a pinch like you say.....

Hey this was me about a week ago.

I used store bought gallons of distilled water until I got around to setting up my RODI again (which felt like it was gonna be a huge project, but ended up being pretty simple).

No ill effects from the distilled vs RODI that I have noted. In theory it should be no issue.

I have never heard of that. I looked it up and ended up buying a still to make my own moonshine:zany-face:!

I used distilled water to fill half my tank lol, RODI production kills me slowly so I went to store and bought 40 gallons lol

I remember my younger years and having access to Everclear. I could not stomach any of that now!

I'm new to reefing and appreciate this thread. Unfortunately the faucets in my house don't have the threads at the end to attach an ro/di unit. I really didn't want to go to the lfs every time I need to top off. I already use distilled water for my CPAP so now I'll just go through that water a bit quicker. :)

If you've got a small tank, you can do it all with store bought, steam distilled water. It is, in fact, even slightly purer than we can make with our home RODI filters ;-) So no worries using it, many reefers do.

What kind of faucet do you have? There's adapters for a wide range of faucets, including common kitchen and bathroom faucets, not just a 'garden hose' type faucet. Even setups where they are not connected permanently to your faucet, only when you want to use the RODI filter. If you have a larger tank, consider getting an RODI, you'll be a lot happier than lugging gallons of water from the store to your home.

I've got a 120. So major water changes are going to be a pain no matter what. I'm just thinking of daily top offs right now. For my weekly water changes until I get an rodi and I'm able to make my own I'll be stopping by the lfs for water.
