Can my eel survive de Nitrate by Seachem?

Hello all, I have a banana eel about 12 inches long, and I have nitrates in my tank, usually 40-80. I recently put some de nitrate in the filter, and he has not been acting wired but I was just wondering because I know that are sensitive to most treatments. I have the de nitrate in there in the first place to help him and a little gold flake angel in there because I know smaller angels are sensitive to high nitrates. As far as I am aware, Denitrate is not anything special (water additive wise), but it's just some super porous media for bacteria to grow in.

Should have no adverse effects on fish. I can't imagine it being too helpful for nitrates either though. I would rather do a water change. Do you have a refugium?

I do not have a refugium, I have 2 FX6s. I do so many water changes but it just does nothing.

FX6s may be the problem.

I would replace them with a skimmer and try carbon dosing.

I would just try to incorporate some type of nutrient export somewhere. Cannister filters are not used too much in saltwater because of such issues.

You should at least have a skimmer with an eel. It wouldn't even hurt to have some macro algae in the display tank since it's just all rocks right now.

And how much of a water change are you doing? It is literally impossible for a water change to not knock down your nitrates if you are using clean RODI water. A 50% water change for example, would knock your Nitrates from 40-80 to 20-40. Did you ever measure the nitrates of your "fresh" sea water?

Also, what media/filters do you have in your FX6s? How often do you clean them? These may be nitrate factories
