This came on a piece of live rock that I bought and I am not sure what it is. It started out very small and has thrived in my tank which is not a reef tank. Any info would be much appreciated.

Is that common to get on live rock? Is it ok to leave in my tank since it is doing so well?

The fact that it came with the live rock is definitely a score, but this doesn't happen all the time. The coral itself is very common though. Everybody either has, or has had one of these before. Very undemanding coral. GL.

Just a heads up that some people do find them to be a nuissance as they can grow and reproduce very fast.

To keep mine from becoming a nuisance I would cut the top off on a regular basis. The stem or the trunk would look a little odd for awhile, but over time it eventually grew back.
