Can you paint aquarium stand while running?

I am looking to change the color of my stand to match other furniture in my house. I really do not feel like breaking it down and painting it. Either way the. Is there a safe paint to use to paint the stand while the aquarium is running. Full of fish and corals, etc. 40 gal cube. I plan to use a fan and keep my sliding glass door open so there will be plenty of ventilarion.

Good idea? Or should o just keep the color it is and live with it?

if you fully cover the tank with some plastic to prevent any drips getting into the tank or sump you will be fine.

I had a leak in my basement ceiling and had to have the whole ceiling removed of the popcorn texture and repainted due to the water damage, and when they came and did all the work, i just wrapped the tank in plastic and taped it to the glass so nothing could get in.

Deffinitly cover the tank well as GlassMunky suggests. Also turn off any air inlets to the tank. Ie. Skimmer, airpumps, etc. while painting and for a day or so after to prevent anything from entering the water via the paint fumes. I would also run carbon and maybe a poly filter after just to be safe.

I've done it without covering the tank. Just need the room ventilated well and run the skimmer air intake line outside or into another room...so it can pull fresh air.

I've painted the inside of my stand with everything running so outside didn't be a problem.

Great tip! I'm thankful my tank is near my sliding glass door so this should be easy.
