Can you help me underrating what’s going on in my aquarium?

I am using the refugium light (white light) as the light for this tank.

I run a small skimmer and have a ton of clean up crew yet I still get all this algae.

Can you help me understand what’s going on right now?

red and green spectrum lighting encourages nuissance algae growth. You can mitigate this by switching to a more blue-focused spectrum reef light, and by reducing the nutrients (nitrate and phosphate) in your water. Remember that while CuC may eat algae, they also excrete waste, and ultimately the nutrients re-enter the water column unless you are exporting nutrients via water changes, sufficient skimming, or a refugium/algae reactor.

so:

  • consider getting a more appropriate spectrum reef light
  • test your nitrate and phosphate
    • react accordingly

White light is your problem. And probably feeding too much.

So what would happen if I turned off the white light? Would the nutrients spike up?

There are no powerheads in the tank, no flow. You need to push the water to your filter. I see only one snail, need much more.

How often you do water changes ? Tap or rodi water?

There’s is a power head and upgraded pump. 9 snails all together.

Pump pushes the water volume 5 times an hour.
