Anyone here interested in car audio? Especially very large systems or competition car audio? What do you have, how did you get started ect?

I use to have a standard cab Sonoma with the back wall of the cab and front wall of the bed cutout. Had 6 x Jl 12W6V2's. All infinity mids and highs. had a total of 12 mids and highs. 6 amps. 160 amp alternator.

Sold it the day my ear started bleeding when I was 18. Now I have a 12" Alpine type R in the trunk of my s2000. Just enough to make it sound good.

Wow...12 w6 would be crazy lol...right now I only have a 12in Memphis Mojo on 1500w max in my Camaro..if I can ever stop being so poor I'll buy an amp that will properly run it..still flexes all the glass in the car though lol..running an old school 4 ch pioneer for the highs..nothing special, but I can at least hear the music when its fully cranked haha

i used to compete in team north east SPL and sponsored by Dynamic Sound & Security and SoundStream. competed in a novice class with two soundstream t5-12s, two powerbass asa 1000 at 1ohm ea, soundstream components up front and powerball 6.5 pro audios in my deck lid, all in a trunked car i was able to hit 145db in cars were powered by a soundstream 500.4

Very very nice I wish I could hit 145 haha..I've only been measured once with my old amp and I was at 127 on music..a nearby town is planning on a few competitions this summer, and I'm hoping he will have a single woofer class..expect I'd well there..especially since I'm in SE Kansas lol

Competed until about a year ago. Did db drags comp, and pro sound for years and won alot. Used image dynamic subs for a while, jk w7's and the before I quit I had premiers Spl 5000's. I used infinity mids mostly kappas.

all my stuff got stolen, so im out of the hobby, i am going to pick up a pair of DC m3 8" subs when they are publicly released...

Yea infinity's kappa line is crazy nice..you know..since you guys dont compete anymore *cough cough* i could use sone stuff *cough cough* lol jk jk...unless you just feel compelled to send me stuff lol

That blows man..happened to me twice...worst feeling in the world...

I still like to run a hertz pass every once in a while lol

Im terrified to go lower than like 36 at volume..I'm too poor to blow a sub right now lol

Ah that's pretty cool..the town the wife and I are leaning towards moving to not only ha my favorite LFS but a decent car audio shop..I'd be ok working 2 part time jobs to be a part of both hobbies LOL

i hear that, i still go down to my local shop and help run their test lane...
I would but id just want to spend more money lol. Plus I got to a point were my daily wasn't loud enough so I was sinking money into it to lol. I topped out at the 2009 DB drag at 156.2db burp, I got out if that and went to doing clarity checks

Used to be with the Evo VIII.. had 2 12w6 and all upgraded seperates, etc. And like $6000 custom fiberglassed trunk and amp mounts, etc.. ill try to find pics..

Had 3 w7's in a 99 extended cab ford ranger ported through the bed. Custom box. 3 1000/1 JL amps. I never did any comps just liked to see how many times I could shatter my back glass.

Blow through systems are kick ***..hell yea post pics if you've got them..I'm definitely not posting mine after hearing about these systems :( lol

When I was a teenager, I had a Ford Probe with 4 12" Hifonic Olympians in a sealed box. Had a 800W MTX Thunder driving the subs. Had a 400W MTX Thunder driving the Pioneer Component sets. I remember blurring my vision at a red light when I was bumping the bass. I had to glue the rear view mirror on a couple times. One time I opened the door and the entire interior door panel fell off. The screws in the dome light would unscrew themselves as well. The neighbors weren't fans of loud music. Especially since their mirror fell of the wall. All the girls used to love the stereo though. They loved to sit on my trunk while I played a bass cd :)

Yea, i had the latch for my hatch come unbolted, an then just randomly popped the latch driving down the road one day lol..

In 2000, I won the db drag racing world finals in the 2 woofer super street class. I should have won in 2001 in the 4 woofer super street class but the battery box broke loose while the car was on the car carrier and i had to disassemble the system to get the car off and reassemble the system inside the convention center. Unfortunately a pinched RCA cable between the 7th and 8th amp sent me home. I gave up that hobby to pursue reef aquariums.

2000 system (approx 164 db & held world record) was 16 Crossfire 1000w class D Amplifiers running 2 Cerwin Vega Stroker 18" dual voice coil subs (8 - 8v Trojan Batteries)
2001 system (approx 170 db & held world record) was 16 Memphis 2400w class D Amplifiers running 4 Treo CSX 15" quad voice coil subs (12 - 8v Trojan Batteries)

The 1982 VW Rabbit had dual 300w alternators from Ohio Generators and it ran the batteries as a 16v system. Don't really have pics because you really never wanted others to know what you were running around the country.
