How long does it take for carbon to start work? i plumbed My reactor in friday and it has been running since.

Na i meant carbon. And i should have been more clear, im need the smell to calm down a bit lol

it could be that you have a smell from the top of your skimmer there have been people that moded their skimmer to put carbon in the top of that with a screen so that the air has to pass through the carbon.

I recently had a mini crash and i think it was in part bc i introduced carbon and it stripped my water. I immediately took it out. Read up on it man.

Carbon dosing aka vodka, vinegar aka solid carbon dosing with bio pellets is totally different than granulated active carbon. And we are discussing the latter. GAC, cant strip your tank and cause a crash. Unless maybe you somehow add an extreme amount, dont rinse it and grind the heck out of it.

Typed from my phone, because I have nothing better to do.

First off, Your tank should not have a bad odor to it. If you do have an odor that carbon would help with then you need to look to something else as the solution. Secondly, foul odor from the tank, as far as my experience goes, comes from the rim. If you get water on the rim of the tank and it dries up, any organics that it contained will turn nasty with a quickness. Anytime I dive into my tank and get water on the rim, I clean it off with a paper towel and fresh water.

Sorry guys its been so long since i have been on to comment but i believe it actually was not my aquarium lol i have found out my dog took a few leaks next to my aquarium for some unknown reason.. I caught him doing it last week. Took a carpet cleaner to it and clean all around very well around the aquarium and in my apartment. but i have not seen him go over there since a week ago so hopefully all is good lol smell has been gone since :)
