Hi all,

Both my cardinals have had this fin issue since the moment I got them about six months ago. The top part is all soft and almost seems like it's dissolved a little. Is this a known issue? They seems healthy and growing fast.

As far as I know, that's natural. Idk if it's a male or female thing but I have seen it before in pics and on the last bangaii I had as well.

No clue - except it could be a genetic issue

Its genetic and often stems from the multiple breeding they are born from. Has no swimming or health effect on them

Not a fin “issue” but a “tassel”, a naturally occurring shape in the first dorsal followed by a second long one without the tassel.

Some appear more prevalent than others.

Thanks all. That's a relief.
I heard these fish had lots of issues in the home aquarium so I was a little worried.
I can’t say that it is “normal”, in that wild Banggai don’t show this, but it is really common in captive ones. I’m not sure of the cause though.

Thanks jay that is an interesting fact

Mine are almost on a 3rd generation of off spring now in tank breeding,,, They all have it. Need to see if youngest has it too. Maybe the real ocean flow changes it

Thanks. As long as they are healthy and there's nothing I can do to make it better, I'm happy. They are fun to watch and getting bigger than I initially thought.
