Nana, I have seen a marked decrease in my diatoms in the last few days. Unfortunately I don't have for sure answer for why.

The changes made recently : 1. greatly decreased my feeding of LRS 2. changed from vinegar dosing to NoPox about 10 days ago. Doubtful this is it because my nitrates have not changed yet. 3. Gone back to weekly water changes and vacuuming the sandbed. 4. Dropped my magnesium from 1400 to 1350 (unintentional).

Maybe I'm just in a temporary lull but I haven't seen them decrease in a long time!

I too have recently gone back to bi-weekly WC. Switched salt to IO. Also lightened up on the RF feeding to every other day, once a day.
During WC I'm also removing sand/stuff. The more I remove the more I find that the sand has clumped beneath the surface. Many of these chunks have made their way to the surface which I remove.
On a good note, it's been 2 full days since my last WC and just a small appearance of "stuff" so far. This is good! Usually within 24hrs my SB is covered.

you have one of the simplest invaders to beat

the live rocks are a major issue, they are plugged up going solely off pics, they are a pump for your invader, a seed source along with the sand, thought it would be ideal to consider ridding it all at once. (need complete tank cleaning in one set)

your light source is being ran at the intensity of a full production reef that hasn't been invaded, that needs to change the corals will adapt. there are a few ways to lessen intensity and still preserve them just fine, pair that with a cleaning and one other left field technique and your tank will become part of the fixes we compile in large threads.

@brandon429 - Simplest invaders? Please do tell! Seeing as you know what it is.
Disagreed prior? I would agree but I'd first have to understand you in order to disagree with you.
I've asked you several times to simplify your suggestions so I could comprehend what it is you're suggesting. You've failed to do so. You've also failed to give a clear cut remedy. Just a bunch of gibberish to me.

My remedy? Removing the substrate little at a time. The End!

Ummm where did it go?! Here's my sand bed 4 days after switching my black box for a Radion Gen1. Sand bed almost clean of the brown "stuff" I've done nothing else. I'm in shock!

Bottom line for me is, this substrate sucks period. For it to react to light or whatever makes IT the problem and nothing else.
To many others and not just those here at R2R are having issues with this stuff while using the exact same substrate.
Whether it's lighting, salt mix or certain chemicals, it reacts badly.

Figuring out the why: Has your primary reason(s) for keeping a saltwater aquarium changed over time?
