CaribSea live sand

Im setting up a 20 long for a quarantine tank. I have an unopened 20 pound bag of CaribSea live sand I’ve had in a cool dark closet for about 15 months. Is it still good or OK to use. Could this go bad or cause any issues. Just want to make sure it doesn’t cause any nutrient spikes or basic chemistry issues.

If in doubt just rinse it with tap water using a garden hose. Then lastly in RODI water.

But for QT why sand? Sand will absorb some copper etc and is not advised in a QT. It would need sanitized after each use as well.

For wrasses or other sand requiring fish a small cup of sand is all that’s needed in a bowl while going through QT. Here’s a picture of my QT. Added a small bin of sand for the diamond goby but honestly he could go without it.

Yes you’re right regarding QT. I should rephrase this as it is more of an observation tank for after purchase of new frags and fish to be sure they have no parasites or diseases issues. Should I need to QT then I would just use a small 5 - 10 gallon with just water only.

I agree with @jonelder68 on rinse if not sure. Also, I think the bag itself has a shelf life or expirations date on it. Look for it before using.
