Ok, been in the hobby for a year and a half now. I have 3 tanks right now and am doing some research on the haddons carpet anemones. How much more difficult is it to keep than bta's? I have a total of 5 bta's in my 3 tanks. All doing great. But i want some input to how hard they are to keep. Do i absolutely need a topoff? Do i absolutely need a tank with a sump? Do i dose anything? I know it needs the lighting, and fed. But anything else? Thanks for taking the time to read and or reply.

There not hard in fact before I got smart I had a lot of fluctuations in my tank and mine has been fine very hardy. I have no top off ebay led lighting and I had a 5 gallon sump before I made my own. I'm on month 3

I have a green Haddon but be warned they eat fish and clowns. The tank is a 125g I have a condi green goblin bta an my carpet
Left carpet middle ggbta and right condi
I run carbon if there is any warfare going on

Once they settle I would not say they are particularly difficult. They do prefer a finer sand bed to foot in, and they will move around until they find that spot. Also as mentioned above they can eat fish, and clowns not acclimated to that particular anemone. I have kept them under LED, MH and PC lighting without issue as it relates to lighting.

The hardest part (( IMO/E )) is finding a healthy one. Not the best of shippers.
You don't NEED an ATO, nor a sump, but they sure make things easier. Personally, I will never run a tank again without either --- Currently in the process of transferring a tank from my mother in law's place to mine. For the short term I set up a 65 to hold the livestock. I currently don't have a sump for that tank, so I had to place the heater in the tank --- would be really worried if I had an anemone in that tank, plus I hate the look. My ATO works best with a sump, so I am not running one, gets annoying to add water to the tank every other day.

Do you have a deep sand bed? Hard to tell in the photo. Haddoni like to bury their foot. Best to have at least 3" of sand, but more is better. If you can bump up your lights and prefer a nem that sticks to the rockwork and has longer tentacles, then a gigantea is my recommendation.

Clowns not acclimated to Haddoni are fare game. Mine ate my two skunk clowns because they dove right in instead of slowly exposing themselves to the anemone. The same anemone also ate 3 Domino Damsels. The Domino Damsel below took the slow approach and resided in the anemone routinely.
Good to know, I have 4 dominos and plan on gettiing a pair of Amphiprion akindynos also, and so far the dominos don't have too much to do with the carpet except stealing it's food [emoji23] they seem to prefer the bta

if you ar getting it at your LFS , you can see and even feel hpw healthy it is.. if its mouth is wide open and it guts hanging out, i would pass on it and wait for the next one.. They dont ship very well and will often cloud a bag pretty bad.. Theres a very very good article in the sticky area. "How i Cipro" if you have Nems i think thats a must know and have on hand... Haddons are very hardy if you know how to treat them or how to pick the correct one... Some live in tidal lagoons and can be out of water buried in the substrate in low tide... i think that says something about them ... If you get a healthy one and your tank is stable with about 3 to 5 in sand bed, youll be fine... Mine came in a cloudy bag and was treated for 10 days.. it lost color and wasnt very sticky at all... after treatment and a little TLC its thriving , all color is back and its so sticky i dont like to touch it because im scared it might not wanna let go--- Its sting is its "sticky"... you may not actually feel a sting ot tingle, just its sticky...
