Hello everyone,

I purchased a blue Giganteae carpet anemone from one the online vendors and it arrived yesterday. It did not arrive in the best condition. Cloudy water and chunks off foo mseneterial filaments floating in the bag. I figured it was probly going to be DOA but placed in a basket in my frag tank regardless. To my surprise it actually appeared that it had two mouths and this was confirmed by the dealer.

It actually started looking much better as the day went on and closed both of it mouths. Lights were turned for a few hours at the end of the day and it seemed to appreciate this.

I got up in the middle of the night to find one of the mouths wide open and expelling waste/mesenterial filaments but the other closed.

Lights have just been turned on for the day and it is closing it mouths again.

I wanted to get everyone’s input on this. I have Cipro and a hospital tank ready to go if needed. See pics.

I'm sadly not very knowledgeable about these animals, but following to learn more.

I think maybe @OrionN is good with anemone if he's got time to reply.

Looks descent in last pic yet still very stressed, if it starts the deflate cycle you will need to treat in qt tank, some would argue to treat asap as most all gigs need it. The condition of the shipping water would have been enough for me to start treatment. Good luck with it and keep us updated. The two mouths is interesting and unique. Hopefully you will have this specimen for years to come

I would definitely start treatment ASAP. I've never seen a gig that has shown severe signs of stress ever recover on its own. I've probably seen several hundred at this point, and not ONE has ever recovered without antibiotic treatment.

This is the first time I've seen a gig with two mouths that close to each other. Hopefully it makes it so we can see what happens to the mouths!

You should start treating it. The sooner the better.

Pretty sure I know where u got it ...Good news :I've successfully treated some nasty looking ones from that vendor ..and lost a couple too...

Sorry top see this. Hope it recovers.

Carpet looks very stressed & injured. I would run decent medium flow across the carpet, enough to gently push off any dead flesh, mucus or debris. Also run some carbon to remove any chances of building up excess organics from all the stuff it’s releasing. Along with adding some iodide, medium lighting & increase oxygen by heavily crashing the water surface or big air stone.
Looks to really appreciate your water parameters though, so I would recommend in keeping your parameters steady. It’s gone through a lot, parameters swinging all over the place can induce more harm to the carpet. Good luck
