Carpet on the floors

I'm moving to a new location and there's carpet on the floor. Is there anything I can do not to damage the carpet?

Carpet around saltwater tanks are a bummer, but there was a thread about what to use to soak up splashed water during water changes. Maybe this will help:

So, what is everyone using to prevent or to soak up spills during water changes and ect. I was thinking a really big bath mat, but open to suggestions. At the rate my hardwood floors are toast.

I have carpet under mine. I had no choice in my house.

Just put towels down during water changes. It doesn't matter what floor you have under it, put towels down during a water change. Saltwater will wreak havoc on anything.
