Caulerpas and photoperiod

I've read certain macroalgaes such as caulerpas "going sexual" is not as bad as it's made out to be, but it can still be a pain if it's easily avoided.

I also remember reading somewhere that if you give it more light hours than dark hours in a 24 hour period, it won't go sexual at all. It only does this if you are at 12 on,12 off. Is this true?

I have the regular looking leaf type and give it 18 to 24 hours, been fine for a couple years. I'm on top of trimming though
