Center brace on DIY stand

I am in the process of building a stand for my 60x28x20 tank from glass cages. Stand is built out of 2x6s with plenty of corner supports, and one center support on the non-sump access side.
So i need to have a center support on the sump access side? I can try to post a picture of the stand at its current progress later tomorrow, have to track a deer a client shot in the morning otherwise I would post a picture now.
I know the general rule is that over 4' wide you want to have a center support, but with the stand already being overbuilt, and having a center support on the far side, I am hoping that someone may have a solution for me to make sump access a bit easier. Thanks!

I'm in a similar spot with a similar stand concept, and I'm planning a peninsula DT, with the idea that both of the long sides of the sump should be assessable (s well as the one short side that's not against the wall).

My thought was to have my 60" rails supported in the center, but those supports wouldn't be glued in place, and theoretically removable if needed.

As always, I'm interested to see what the R2R gurus suggest.

Ha. Yea, i sorta get that. I am usually a dive right in sorta person. My tank wont be here until late December at the earliest so I am having to move a bit slower than I normally would. Ive already got everything I need for the tank, so as soon as it arrives I should be able to get things rolling pretty quick.

No idea where you got the over 4’ wide thing from. I don’t see why you would need it at 60” for a 2X6 top frame. Also, measure the gap, not the outside of the stand. This will tell you the actual span that’s unsupported.

Ah, well I suppose the gap is 49”. I may just place a 2x4 in the center but not actually secure it in. If i need in i could just tap it out.

A 49” gap with a 2X6 doesn’t need extra support. You’re good to leave it open.

With 2x6 you should not "need" it.

Perfect. I’ll probably leave the 2x6 on the non sump access side just to give the skin some support but id say thats good news for me.
