With red, whit, and yellow colors that look like they came from a Doctor Sues book, the Cuban Hogfish is one of the two jewels of the Caribbean.

It is hard to believe that a little oddly shaped white fish with an orange mask turns into this stunning fish. Too bad their specialized diet makes it almost impossible to achieve adulthood in captivity.

If you are lucky, you can get a male Asfur Angelfish that has this type of metallic sheen—this is one of my top three all-time favorite fish in the hobby.

There is a beauty in the simplicity of the colors found on the Bandit Angelfish. I've never seen black and gray look so good other than fashion show.

I’m seeing a lot of “no foxface in a 4’ tank” here. I was planning to get a one spot for mine. Is that a bad idea as well?

I think a One-spot Foxface is fine. It will max out around 6" to 7". Just be careful of crowding with a Foxface. I've had one that frequently spined other fish that were overly active, and it leaves sores on the body of the injured fish.

Ugh. So maybe I’ll pass on the foxface. Now I’m in the same boat as the OP. Not sure what to add to this list:

2 clowns
Lawnmower blenny
Pictus blenny
Pajama cardinal
Scissortail dartfish
Royal gramma

I had a copperbsnd for 18 days, but just lost him. He had started eating frozen brine shrimp and did pick at some frozen mysis. He was good yesterday. Dead today. No idea if he starved or not, but I am not going down that road again - especially since I am not sure if it was my fault or not.

I guess it’s a few wrasses and a midas blenny for me. Maybe a firefish. I was really counting on a bristletooth to help keep my rocks clean, but perhaps that should be out, too.

Is this reef safe?

Not much yet. 2 gonis, 1 acan, 1 lobo, 7 hammer heads in total, 1 alveopora, large branching duncan. Plan to add more of the same

Yeah… I picked this one up today at the LFS. About 8 inches and not fully grown yet. The bucket is a standard 5 gallon for reference…

No he isnt, just the regular one. Never seen one this big without the spot which is why he was so striking!

You can have a fox face, bristle, or a yellow. You just have to pay attention to YOUR system and fishes needs, and above all use your better judgement as the time passes. There are many variants that yes are not well suited for a 4ft house, and many in a smaller size that can be fine for some time, or even long term. A 4ft tank will definitely open the door for some of the smaller less zoomier tangs. These threads you always need to take with a grain of salt, it brings out extremes on both ends, always.

In a 4 foot tank I would look for something else. All those tangs get too big and need a lot of swimming room which your tank wouldnt have in the dimensions. Foxfaces also get very large very fast. It would outgrow your tank in a few months.

Cubes are hard because it puts a lot of active swimmers out due to the cramped space.

Have you looked into the dwarf angels at all? Those are smaller and would fit a lot better.

Or a small harm of anthias (2-3 females and one male)
bristletooth does not get too big for that tank. It would be fine

Yeah that wasnt the one I was talking about, I was talking about the others on the list which I clarified later on in the thread because didnt realize that one was on the list 😂

Is this reef safe?
Far from reef safe and will remove all polyps then go after softies.
See pyramid butterfly, lamark angel and midas blenny
