Good evening,

I bought my 1st chalice frag the other day as I was blown away by its bright orange colour.
The shop told me to place it higher in the tank which I did (Roughly 1 foot from the TMC aquaray P5 set to mixed coral display setting) Thing is during daylight hours, its plain, almost misable, as soon as the lights start winding down it goes from a nice green back to the orange.
Is this about right? I have no bleaching.
Should I move it lower in the tank to get more colours?
How do I feed it mysis? It is very small and I cant see it being able to manage a shrimp. I feed the tank with phyto is that suffice until it grows bigger?
Sorry lots of quesfions there.

It looks more like a montipora to me.....
What kind of light do you have, how many watts? What size is your tank? That will give us a better idea on the placement.
Nevermind I re-read your post. The placement looks fine to me, but curious if others think its a chalice or monti...

So the answer you're looking for doesn't appear to have been given yet - corals fluoresce in blue lights of the correct spectrum. Your light is likely putting out more whites during peak and you notice more of the orange fluoresce as the white becomes less intense and the blues are stronger.

I agree, definitely a Montipora.
Thankyou all for your help, I must say that now I am a little worried, I was only looking to have soft coral and a few easier LPS and now I have this ,,,,, looks like my Hanna testing range is about to grow!
Thanks again

Montipora are just as easy as a chalice. Probably easier to be honest. Just keep doing what your doing now. It should be fine.
