Chalice curls upwards

The edge of my raja rampage curls upwards. Does anyone else have a chalice that does this? I wouldn’t think it’s wanting more light. I have 2XR15 Radions and 2 Quanta bars on a Waterbox Reef 130.4

they do that based on the flow etc. raja looks nice and happy to me man!

I have one that always forms a cup shape no matter where I place it. It's been in the same par range as my Acropora, still makes a cup and grows upwards.

It's called an Ultra Sherbert chalice and it's one of my Blenny's favorite resting spots

Added it at the end of 2024. It reached one point where it just started growing super fast. It’s bigger than my hand now.

Ive noticed over the years, if an encrusting chalice has no rockwork to keep spreading on, it will form its own skeletal structure on itself and either cup or just grow upwards really thin like your raja is doing.
The other chalice thats posted with the blenny in the middle is the first one ive seen that is as nice of a cup as that. Probably due to the higher par level and stable water parameters.

Interesting. Seems mine is the same way.

Completely normal. The growth habit is right in the name as if they stayed flat they'd be named saucer corals. The plate corals name was already taken :)

Definitely the case with mine, it's also just as fragile as a fine crystal chalice haha

When mine gets too big I trim it with a pair of small stainless steel scissors from my frag tool kit. The trimmings almost never survive unfortunately.

I believe (from my observations of wild corals) they do this in response to higher lighting, plating/foliose corals tend to form "laminae" in shallower waters while in deeper waters they tend to flatten out and/or become encrusting
