I liked how it showed algae takes over sps when tissue recedes, not because there’s a nitrate phosphate imbalance in the ocean. The reefing hobby does not accept this notion, algae 100% relates to water quality anyone you ask, but not in nature. Remove the grazers or mess with the coral flesh exposing a new contact surface, and waters that originally produced copious sps now produce algae. No changes in nutrients required, only opportunity to use what’s there.

incorporating this in reefing saves corals due to less parameter changes and reactions, along with direct vs indirect removal of invasions now legitimized due to most algae issues being opportunistic, not a water param issue.
