Hi everyone, I'm new to calculating head pressure and stuff for a 40B + 20G sump. I thought I had it down at one point but then I looked at different calculators and it threw everything off so I don't know what to believe anymore. I want it to come up from my sump then split off so it shoots back in my display tank from both the right and left side of the display tank. My stats are

Pump: Quiet One Lifegard Pump 758 GPH 1" MPT
Vertical travel: 4'
Horizontal Travel: 3'
90d Elbows: 8
90Degree T-Joint: 1

  • How do I calculate head pressure?
  • Is a 1.5" diameter overflow enough or should i do 2"?
  • Is Uniclife DEP-4000 a better choice than the Quiet one? (~60$ budget)

Are you using all 1" pipe for the return plumbing?

Also, of the 8 90s, how many are before the tee and how many are after?

That's the one that contradicted all the other calculators lol

Only one 90 will be before the tee everything else will be after

The pump seems to be 1" so I figured I should, is it typical to put an adapter for larger diameter?

Well, it's been around for a while and many of us have referred to it.
Don't think I've heard any complaints about it, other than it doesn't have a pump update.

I think @mcarroll may have more info for you on the matter.

Sounds good, someone just told me that the number that calculator gave and the number they measured after installation we're almost exactly the same.

Yea noticed the pumps weren't updated too. Would you say as long as I compared to a pump with the same gph and output diameters it's be more or less the same?
