Chipped New Tank

Hello everyone, not an emergency at the moment but I couldn’t figure out where else to post this. I purchased a Cad light 100g artisan tank yesterday. On the way home I got lucky enough to chip the bottom right hand corner on the front pane.

It was a used setup and I bought it specifically for the glass tank. The stand had water damage and the lights and sump were not the plan I had in mind.

Anyway my question is will it hold up, or what are my other options? I would hate to have to buy another.

My two cents worth... a chip is a potential future failure. Tanks are relatively inexpensive particularly when compared to a catastrophic failure at some point in the future. It would drive me crazy thinking every sound was a precursor to failure....

Of course, if you want others to comment, upload a picture and more of a description of where the chip is.

Did not chip into the seal. You'll be fine. ;)

That looks ok to me. As long as it is a "scalloped" chip like that and there are no micro cracks radiating out it should be ok. There is no guarantee of course. Personally, I would go ahead and use it, but that's your call.

When I bought my tank I did the same thing moving it from the car to the house. It didn’t look great but worked perfectly for a year.

I moved again and turns out I don’t learn from my mistakes. Chipped it again. The second chip was two years ago and it’s still working perfectly. I wouldn’t stress it at all.

Just make sure you look at it closely as stated before to check for cracks ‘streaming’ off the chip.

I’m on the fence of taking the risk myself. I’m getting new flooring before I put the tank up. I’d hate to immediately dump 100g of saltwater on it lol

I reached out to cad lights to see what they thought. They requested pictures of the chip but haven’t responded since I sent them.

you could see about getting some black plastic trim that's on the bottom of a lot of tanks. bunch of silicone and slap the trim under it.

It doesn’t look bad. Grab a magnifying glass and check closely for cracks that have the potential to spread and fail. If the chip is clean I think your good. Fill it first in the driveway and let sit a while to test just for an added measure.

Also, what is the water damage from the stand caused by? Had the tank leaked at some point?
