Christian's Overstocked AP 24

Thanks for spending some time with your kid. If it something that he is legitimately interested in, that is a great passion that the two of you will be able to share for a very long time. He is a lucky kid in that case, and you a lucky father.

I have to agree with what others are saying, some crazy chalices, even if they arent real sizeable yet. I dont think there is a single one of us that wouldnt take that collection off your hands if you asked us to.

Thanks King,

I'm very fortunate and I would have never thought I'd be a reef addict as well. Thought this hobby would come and go, but both Christian and I caught the bug. At the end of the day it comes down to our kids and what we teach them.

I'm sure that there are very few reefers that would have passed up the deal we got on the chalice collection. Now the tough part is trying to figure out where we could fit more:) We had to stick the Tyree Robokaki colony in the far left upper rear corner next to the overflow because its feeders would sweep all of the other chalices.

Alright guys, here's a pack that Christian and I are posting for Danny's family. We've never met him before, but he was a loving father, husband, and fellow reefer who lost his life a few days ago in a tragic accident. As a father, husband, and someone who is trying to instill morals and values with Christian and Cameron we're providing a pack from Christian's tank for Danny's memorial fund. I still have to run it by Christian, but I'm sure he won't mind helping out a little girl who just lost her Daddy. I hope this doesn't violate any forum rules, but here's the link to the pack we're providing. Thanks guys for encouraging my little reefer and we hope to raise just a little to help with such a tragic loss.

VERY IMPRESSIVE that you were able to keep and grow SPS. What kind of lighting did you have in the 24g and in the 45g that maintained your sps?

Thanks, we were running a 150 watt Sunpod with 20k Aqualine Pro bulb on the 24. The 45 we have a Coraline 250 watt MH with 2x65 actinic PC's. I actually like the smaller tanks because water changes are easy. Good water quality is probably the most important in growing sps.

Wow that's a crazy story !! I have to find some one like that haha! Keep it up christian!

Yeah, it's not very common to run into deals like that.. A bunch of our reefing buddies found out after we picked up the collection and Christian almost had to give them one of his old Pull Ups..haha There were several of them on the fence after seeing the listing, but didn't realize the colonies were more than double as advertised. On top of that was the package deal.. We can't run into another deal like that because we don't have anymore room:) We'll be adding a nice 15+ eye Tyree Pink Watermelon this Thursday to our collection... Man this hobby's addicting, but at least we're able to sell some of the Nightmares and Bazooka Joe frags to make up for the money we're spending on the colony. We were suppose to spend the money on a Bubble Magus dosing pump, but guess that will have to wait:)

Well we had to hook up our chiller last Friday because I came home from work and forgot to turn the AC on before I left. The house got to 76 and the tank was running at 83.4 from 79, when I left in the morning. We just let it cool running a fan for a few days and the tank dropped back down to 78. No losses and all of the corals look fine besides a maricultured colony we picked up a few months ago that wasn't transitioning very well. The chiller has been hooked up and has kept the temp between 78-79 degrees throughout the day. Hopefully there won't be anymore scares and Christian will be watching the tank for the next 4 days, while I'm on a business trip. I'm leaving detailed instructions for my Mom to follow, just in case Christian decides to go a little crazy on dosing or feeding:)

Hey reefer-had to check out your 45 oceanic... wow! Christian has a very nice collection going there. And really what a great tool to learn about responsiblity and finances. Definately a step up from a dog!

Thanks Tabasco,

Christian definitely has a nice collection going and it's been awesome to teach him with. Looks like your setup is coming along as well. I really like the Tech tanks and the only problem I'm running into is getting into the tank without having a hanging kit on our lights. His Mom wants a dog next and I said no for now:) She wants a rat that barks..haha

That's a great looking tank and an awesome story. What a great way to teach your son values (and value). How does the Pink Watermelon look?

Thanks CJ,

The Pink watermelon is doing fine,.but does need to color up. I could see the pink coming through, but I think it'll be a few months before the color completely comes back.

Here's some updated pics.. We ended up picking up a ATL Pink Lemonade colony that's in the top righthand corner of the tank. We ended up having to move a bunch of corals and I gave some to my cousin as well. The tank is coloring up, but I can't get any good pics with our old camera. Let us know what you think and if there's any suggestions on aquascaping and coral placement:)

Thanks Austin, it was nice chatting with you over pm's:) It's so much fun doing this with Christian. However, I did sneak out to a local club meeting to see Steve Tyree speak the other day with my cousin and didn't bring Christian. He was busy with his grandparents, but I felt really bad. I made it up to him by bringing home the colony of ATL Pink Lemonade though:)

i can only imagine how much he is going to know in 10-20years. what you are doing now is awesome and i wish my daughter wanted to learn about mine. she just wants me to get a clown and name is NEMO.

Pink lemonade is a stunner under LED's!

May I ask what Christians secret to keeping SPS is?
