So I see lots of great looking tanks on here and I never see a christmas tree worms in porities coral.

Do they not live long in our aquariums? Has anyone had good luck with these?

I would like to know peoples experiences.

very hard to keep alive, I have had them twice and generally live 6 - 8 months. If you really want to try them you will need to feed tank photo feast every day and blow gently over the worms.

yeah, i see them in peoples tanks for a little while, but they need high nutrients in the water to filter and survive.

Like said above they only eat out of the water column so if you have little nutrients in your water they will dwindle away

Well it sounds like these guys are probably not for me then. Thanks for the info, saved me 30 bucks. :)

I've had my porites worm rock for years and I've never lost any of it. Actually the worms have multiplied and the porites has grown out. Here's a pre-flatworm annihilation and a horrible top-down shot.

I had one for years as well actually just sold it but I never really fed my tank or anything at the time I think from what I've heard the porities has to stay healthy!

I've had mine for about 5 years. I even accidently broke a piece of porites off and it fell on some live rock and grew into a 3 inch colony.

I've had mine for a little over a year .... haven't done any direct feeding or anything special for it.

wow im glad i did a search before i posted!! my wife amanda, is really wanting one of these for her tank!! and we have heard mixed things about them, some say they need water quality like sps and fed reguraly but i would think that they would need a dirtier water being filter feeders, then i have also heard they do not like lots of light and like shade.

if anyone with some real experience with these could send me a PM with what they do or how there tank is kept to keep these thriving i would appreciate it, right now her tank is running 10dkh , 440 cal, 1500 mag, and 20-40 nitrate , 0 nitrite 0 ammonio

she is wanting to go see about getting one on friday as the LFS has had one the past few times we have gone in and she is wanting it!

any help would be appreciated

thanks!!

I have heard they can be difficult to keep and don't have a very long life span. I think those that are able to keep them long term are seeing reproduction of the worms and not a worm that is living for several years.

to me that makes since, and to me also that would be a thriving speicies if it is reproducing that would be a thriving speciamen..

If a critter's lifespan is cut to a fraction of normal but it manages to spew out a few babies before it kicks the bucket, it really isn't thriving....

I didnt mean die every 6 months with babies, how long os there life span? Do#s anyone know? I ment if the same worms live for a few years, and can be healthy enough to reproduce than that to me seems normal. That is there goal in nature, to live to reproduction to carry on the species.

Yeah there are many mixed reviews on these corals. I personally have not been able to keep them but I know a few people that have done well. They seem hit or miss.
