A few months ago I rebooted my 5.5g tank after a plague of what I've come to believe was chrystophytes. It was a white-golden brown mucous-y slime that overtook everything. I think I see the beginnings of it again in my new tank of the same size. The old tank was fish-less but I bought a damsel this time specifically to create waste. I feed the damsel mysis every other day. I feed the corals reef roid paste before every water change each week. I also dose amino acids every night.
Current tank just hit the 4 month mark.
Paradoxically I have what I believe to be chrystophytes all over my rocks but ALSO tons of hair algae.
To the people who have battled chrystophytes before: what was your strategy? Did you just increase feedings? Did you dose nitrate or phosphate? My understanding is that it is important to dirty the water and to dose beneficial bacteria.
