citrus acid bath time

got about 2 -3 tablespoons of citric acid in about 1/2 gallon of rodi water to clean mp40 wet side. How long would yas leave that in for to get the algae off? I’m thinking 3-4 hours? a

Will it damage it if i leave it longer?

Should be OK. Longer is no problem. What kind if algae are you removing?

My method is a 10% bleach bath 24hrs then citric for minimum 24hrs. The bleach will take care of the organics and the citric, the calcifieds. Foams usually do not do well in bleach.

Myself I throw everything into a rodi bucket with citric acid and and powerhead and leave it overnight. Everything becomes brand new like the day it came out of the box.

I do this too. Usually a little stronger, but same process.
Bleach works great for removing organic matter.

Should be OK. Longer is no problem. What kind if algae are you removing?

looked like some hair algae. Nothing major. Needed to come off. I did about 5 hours strong citric acid bath.
could have done bleach too but i will do that next time

Well yes, it is a bit stronger, but 10% is a safe standard starting point.
