I don’t write negative reviews of a company often.
I believe that if things are an average outcome, I make a decision whether to use a company again or not.
But when a company openly ignores and in my opinion, scams you, it’s time to sound the alarm.
I placed an order with clam mania for an ultra rainbow Crocea clam on February 15. I was really excited to be able to get a clam from them because I was very impressed with John and his knowledge. Had seen many videos online, and he seems like a good person and very knowledgeable.
Put in the requested ship date as per the form online. The confirmation said that they would send you a notice when the clam shipped. The clam didn’t ship. I thought maybe there was some sort of delay due to weather or some other reason so I emailed back and asked that the clam be shipped the following week with a new requested arrival date that I listed. Asked that they send me back a confirmation as to the anticipated shipping date. Nothing.

That day came and went so I tried calling Clam mania. John’s voice was recognizable on the answering machine, but I couldn’t leave a message because the voice box was full.
Send a text to the same number, as well as to the “contact us”webpage.
At this point I’m just looking for a confirmation of an actual shipping date. If it takes a little longer, so be it. Although on a “what you see is what you get” order you would think it would ship immediately.

I let a couple more days go by and since I was hearing nothing I sent a “ last email attempt” request letting Clam Mania know I was going to contact PayPal for a refund if I didn’t hear back promptly.
Never did. After two more days I initiated a refund request through PayPal. They sent an email and a seven day response window timeframe to clam mania to resolve the issue. Clam mania never responded and this morning I received a refund from PayPal.😃

So to those who may be considering clam mania, you have been warned!
BTW, I had noticed some negative feedback on this form about clam mania, but I dismissed it as being from last year and seeing a note on their Facebook page that they were shipping clams in December after a delay due to weather.
Sounds like it’s more than a weather issue at clam mania.

It’s a shame because I also am in the market for a nice clam and can’t seem to find many for sale besides from clammania. I didn’t place an order due to the online reviews you mentioned and tried to get in contact with them to ensure I would get what I purchased if I did place an order, but like you, I never heard back . It’s truly unfortunate because I was similarly impressed by John’s discussions and knowledge of these animals and he undoubtedly doubt has (or had) some beautiful clams.

I hope things change for I would love to get one from John. For now I would limit that to only an “in person” selection.
FYI Biota has some nice wysiwyg Crocea clams. I got one- it’s a beauty. A bit on the smaller side (1 1/4”) but very healthy and adapted immediately.
