I purchased a clam for my new tank one month ago and have not seen him since. Is he dead? how is he eating? Is this normal?

you cant find your clam? clams are photosythetic filter feeders, you wont see them eat, but they don't move either......

Do you think I should shift through the sand? I had him and have not seen him since the first night.

A clam like this? I think people were thinking a giant clam. If you do have the clam in the photo you're not going to see it, they like to dig themselves into the sand and filter feed with a siphon.

Then its most likely in your sand. You won't see it often, but if you want to try and find its location go over your sand bed and see if you see a little siphon poking out. I wouldn't recommend digging to find it.
