Cleaning a chilly chill chiller

Got a used JBJ on the craig today that was running when I picked it up so it has water in the reservoir. I want to disinfect and clean the thing but the owner told me that you are not supposed to turn over chillers to let the water out?

I was going to run 1:1 water/vinegar mix through it overnight after I got the water already inside it out. How do you all clean/disinfect chillers?

You can plumb it to be fed from a pump in a bucket and to just drain back into that bucket.

Normally the bucket would be too small and your pump would overheat, but.....you've got a chiller in the loop! :D :D :D Keep it running and add whatever you want to the bucket for cleaning.

What about the saltwater that is already in there? Can I flip the thing over to get it out first?

It's the same deal with refrigerators....if you leave the freon pump high and dry, no good. I would not flip it over....if you can find the user manual, see what it says about the subject.

If you're concerned, do a flush with freshwater and empty the bucket. Do that a few times and you're about as good as you'd need to be. Do the same again after cleaning if you do more than vinegar.

I'm a refrigeration mechanic and its fine to tip it over. The little amount of oil in the compressor will run back no worries just leave it upright for about 20 min and all good
