Cleaning back chamber

I’m 7 months in this biocube16gal, I want to clean the back chamber but don’t want to mess anything up, lots of feather dusters in there some broke n died off cause of hermit crabs got into the chamber. But how or should I clean the back chamber?

Turn off return, drain tank until overflow, grab a sponge, scrub the walls, and suck up using a siphon
