Cleaning Sandbed and recirculating back into Filter Roller?

Do you do it? can it be done on a Clarisea SK3000?

I have automatic waterchanges set up and would prefer if I didn't have to do manual waterchanges to clean detritus manually, however I figured i could siphon straight into my roller as I sift the sand, would this work or just go straight through the 20/32 micron roll?

Manual siphoning into a filter sock is often used. The sock is removed afterwards and emptied outside of the system.

I don’t know if siphoning to a roller filter would be a clean operation but otherwise it has possibilities?

What micron sock do people usually shoot for?

I agree with @exnisstech that the fine mesh socks are superior to felt fiber material, and I never have been too concerned with the micron number, but the finer ones will obviously need more frequent rinsing to keep them operational during the siphon work.

I run the siphon tube through a zip tie around the cabinet door to my sump. From there the tube empties into a mesh filter bag/sock placed such that the rim of the mesh sock/ bag is resting across my filter roll. Easy to remove the algae, etc. from the mesh with the mesh bag and the method ensures fine filtration for anything passing though the mesh.

I use a roller mat, but if I need to siphon to clean the sand I just temporarily mount a filter sock into the sump and filter through that. Easy enough to clean the sock with a garden hose when done.

This actually sounds like a great idea, wondering if you have a photo of that setup, and/or a link to the sock/bag you use for it

Definitely sounds like the best of both worlds because the roller will capture anything that decides to pass through
