Cleaning skimmer cup suggestions

I just use my hands, then wash my hands. I've met many people with an aversion to that too, which I totally respect. There are some smells I'm sensitive to as well.

Took about a decade for the Mrs. to be okay with me cleaning it in the kitchen sink. I just have to make sure not to leave any chunks.

hmmm, I just remove the top, suck out the good stuff with a turkey baster, then wipe clean with paper towels into a dog waste bag then the latex gloves I was wearing get pulled off over the bag of towels. quite an efficient process.

My skimmer cup is 16", so it goes like this. Detach it and set it on a 5-gallon bucket. (It's big enough that the collection cup neck sits in the bucket and the rim is resting on the top of the bucket) Carry to the mop sink and use a dish sponge to clean. I use the bucket, so I have no chance of spilling skimmate on the floor.

I just pull mine off the skimmer take it the wash sink in fish room , hose it out wipe it down with a sponge , dry it and put it back on.

Rinse with water to remove large/thick build up. Toss it in citric acid for a bit, usually while my pumps soak. Rinse with water (preferably R/O). Let dry. Set back up.

I run a gallon external reservoir now, so I only really do this less often. But used to be apart of my monthly maintenance. In-between I would just dump the skim mate into the toilet and put the cup back on.

clean cup weekly. Use a baby bottle cleaning brush to clean the gunk then a regular microfiber cloth after most is removed. I throw the cup in citric acid every 6 months when I do my deep cleaning.

I spray it with a garden hose to get the sludge off then go over it with a bottle brush, rinse and done.

👍 This has been my go-to for years.

Alternately, a hose with a garden spray nozzle....I occationally use both of these (came in a pack together):

I'm not *really happy* cleaning my skimmer unless I have a utility sink tho.....in my current setup I installed a double wide (single well) utility sink so I can even clean my ETSS-2000 comfortably. ;)

Forgot to add....skimming wet makes the skimmer self-cleaning. This is my total favorite way to clean a skimmer. Hard to get every skimmer tuned that way, but the ETSS's were great. MRC's I could never get tuned to run this way...seemed like they were designed to be thrumb-screw torture **every cleaning**. AquaC and Tunze aren't too hard to dial in like this in most cases. Then you just dump and return to service.
