Closed loop intake

okay well I have 180 I'm setting up and building the overflow boxes for. <br />
I have to go with corner boxes as this is where the old boxes were and would like to keep them there. So tank came pre drilled for closed loop. <br />
My idea is have the right I take setup for herbie style drain and the left overflow for emergency and closed loop intake. I bounced the idea off some people and one came up if the main return pump stopped working the closed loop would run dry. I can see how t how that could happen. So since I'm making my own overflow boxes could I make the intake teeth on the closed loop boxes 1 inch large than the box in the right and get away with it ? Reason behind putting closed loop intake in the box is keeping it out of the main display . <br />

Not sure if this is going to work ok because closed loop pump is going to suck up all the water from over flow box and dump it back in the tank. Best place to have closed loop intake is from DT. This way you can run two pump individually without any issues. JMO

He is right, but if your set on putting it in the overflow box there is a solution. You could nix the emergency drain, cut a hole in the overflow box and plumb it up the same way. With the hole in the overflow box, it basically won't be an overflow box anymore.

Now that I think of it, you prolly don't need to nix the emergency drain. Just make it the right height so it is still affective.

Yes you need the intake in the tank
