i am looking for info on how many holes to drill and how big to go on them.

i have a 90g tank that i want wanting to plumb and add more holes to it has a drain and two returns right now but i feel that may not be enough.
the holes are 3 1" bulkhead holes

also what size pump would be recommended on the closed loop on a tank this size?

where are these hole located. mag 12 would do good. 3 x 1" holes is fine for that. i would plumb the feed from one 1" hole and return to the other 2x 1" holes using 1" pipe. on the bulkheads for the return i would reduce them to 3/4 and maybe out locklines on them.

the upper holes are as follows one in the upper right and one in the upper left and one near the bottom of the tank. i was wanting to put more holes in the tank so that way i can plumb it to have more flow so that is why i was asking about more holes

is there any one that has put out a book that details setting up a sump/fuge and a closed loop system? if possible can you list author and book title

I have 3 holes for my closed loop. The pump suction is in the back center about half way down and the two returns are in the upper back corners. The pump is a OceanRunner 3500 feeding an OceansMotions Squirt two way which goes back into the tank via Loc Line returns and nozzles.

Make sure you have ball valves on everything and unions on the pump so it can be removed for cleaning. I am not a fan of drilling the bottom of a tank unless its contained inside an overflow box.

one feed and 2 returns is about the best your going to get. adding more holes will only weaken the output and not do much. for more holes you would need something like an ocean motion 4 way or 8 way. a lot more plumbing. with a 4 way it opens and closes returns so only 2 are running at any one time.

Agreed, but are the holes the original poster was reffering to for the drain/return for the sump (overflow), or are there other holes for that?

There are different drums for Oceans Motions... you can have it only allow one outlet at a time, two at a time, etc... depends on the drum.

not sure i think a picture would help as well.

as for opening 1 port at a time i think is on one of the smaller units and would depaned on the pump. yes, a smaller pump only 1 hole wil realy do for the return. would work just like a SCWD. at that point 2 holes would require a smaller pump and would be cheeper.

really depands on the size of the pump he wants to use before i could how to do it and if he was going to user some type of SCWD or 2 way/4way/8 way.
