Closed loop uv smells?

I have a closed loop, Uv sterlizer hard piped directly to the display, and i had it off for a while, turned it on today, and the smell is unbearable in my basement. It smells really bad. Is that because the stale water that was inside the UV while its not running? Should the smell fade on its own?

Should i be worried about ammonia spike? My tank is 1 year and 5 months old

I imagine you smelled uv radiation effecting biofouling inside of darkened tubes. Biofouling would include Cynobacteria and hydrogen sulfide.

Does really bad, smell like rotten eggs?

PS: How is this uv smell different than protein skimmer?

Beware that rotten egg smell is very toxic to the tank, and to you if the level is high enough. It’s a risk any time tank water is trapped unaerated in a pipe.

What do i do? The smell went away, i tested ammonia and its at 0. Anything else to do? Is there a risk to my tank now?

Same smell as protein skimmer. Also my ORP dropped to 0 when that happened, and its going back up.. how bad did i screw up!
