Cloudy salt mix

Hello,

I mixed up some salt recently and its still cloudy after 24 hours. I am wanting to see what you all think.

It is red sea coral pro salt. I added the weighed amount of salt into a mixing bucket. I then added rodi water to the bucket and mixed and heated it using a pump and heater i was using in a tub thats almost done cycling rocks.

Salt is sitting at 1.025

So hindsight being 20/20, I should have rinsed the pump and heater in citric acid to clean them before adding them to the mixing barrel.

Is this batch of salt ruined?

Measure alk and Calcium and if they are good then the salt water is fine. The dust will settle or be filtered out

If I'm not mistaken, the Red Sea Coral Pro salt mix specifically states to mix it up to like 2 hours and never more than about 4 hours, if I remember correctly. If you mix it longer, some elements can precipitate out of solution, which may be the cause of your cloudy water 24 hours later. As said above, this doesn't mean your water is "ruined' but you may find that it's now at a lower Alk and/or Calc then it would have if there was no precipitation.

Next time add water first then salt. Might be some perception making it cloudy?

Unfortunately i dont have a calcium or alk test kit yet. Does it make a difference if it is going into a new system with no corals?

The fish won’t mind the alkalinity or calcium, ime. It is the corals that need steady alkalinity for health and happiness.

I think it was a mistake.
