Yep, time is your friend. These kind of bacteria blooms are not a threat to anything other then decreasing oxygen levels, so make sure you have plenty of surface agitation. I have heard uv sterilizers will help the process if you really want to speed things up but I personally I have not used one.

A UV sterilizer will take care of the problem in 24-48 hours, however it will come back if taken off line and the root problem still exists.

As others said above, time is your best friend and it will eventually pass.

Tank finally clearing up some...

Changed out carbon and added more.. filter sock... 2 small water changes.. still cloudy but definitely better...

Who else used life rock - seems to be somewhat a common experience perhaps.

Life Rock here as well - same cloudy issue. Tank is new and very close to the end of it's cycle.

This is my fifth reef - all others were seeded with live rock - cycle was greatly reduced. Using life rock, some kick start bacteria, and one small fish this go around. On sixth week now, fish is fine and eating well, nitrite is about .25 nitrate about 5ppm. Water is cloudy though - same as OP.
 

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
