Clove identification

Trying to get a better ID on this coral I picked up at a show, not like other cloves I have. Is this like a long polyp clove?

It may be encrusted on 2” piece of rubble. Or the plug is upside down.

Plug is not upside down and there's no rubble on the plug. The stolons are intertwined. But upon some googling it does appear close to GSP, I just haven't seen it so branchy like that. Maybe low light made it stretch out and less dense? :face-with-rolling-eyes: Guess I'll watch it closely and see.

Ah yeah thanks! It does fit that description nicely.

Also had a tiny piece break off, thanks to a hermit crab cleaning it :face-with-spiral-eyes: But it was a solid base so I glued it to a frag rock and the polyps immediately opened. It will be interesting to watch.

One thing to be careful of with pipe organs is that pests like to take up residence inside those red skeleton tubes. This can cause the coral to stay closed. So, always make sure the bottom is glued shut if you frag it or move it.

The similarities are striking. Cool, learned something new. I take it the stalks are actually the skeleton of the coral and happen to look like the stalks of an opened GSP?

Hard outside skeleton that are like tubes and the soft flesh is on the inside, the polyps extend through small openings. So breaks in the skeleton can lead to infections or pests. Fragging it you must make sure the tubes are sealed.
