Clove polyps dead or closed?

I received these two clove polyp frags in a recent order. I initially assumed they were closed, but now I’m suspecting they are deceased, which is a bummer because I know they are supposed to be pretty much unkillable (but they spent an extra day in shipment). Can they be brought back or are they cooked?

Look pretty dead to me, but clove polyps are soft corals and have no skeleton so when they die they don't really leave anything behind, they just "melt". So maybe they are still alive for now but I wouldn't put any faith in them coming back.

That’s the thing that has led me to hesitate, if they were completely dead there wouldn’t be any stalks left on either. I’ll leave them in until they either disappear or open up

If algae is growing over it i would assume dead.
