40g QT
Large canister filter (550gph)
2 large air stones (plenty of aeration)
0.0 Ammonia
Cycled - But fresh WC 9 days ago
Finished 30 day copper @ 2.30 ppm
Dosed Prazipro yesterday at 7am.

Total of 5 fish in this QT
All other fish are fine.
One of the clowns experienced immediate effects from administering a dose of Prazipro.
Labored breathing staying near surface.
24hrs later he is in a PVC fitting on bottom. He is upright but still labored breathing. Some fin wrought. Eyes are clear, No signs of white poop.
I'm suspecting deeply entrenched Flukes.

Assuming he makes it through the day,
What should be the next step?
Metroplex bath?

Thank you
Jeremy

Assuming it is the prazipro and not just a coincidence, did you notice lots of wriggling when the prazi was first added? If there were lots of flukes, the clown could have basically had tons of wounds open up from the flukes dislodging. I can imagine this to be quite uncomfortable.

Replied.

Have you noticed any damage to the clown?
Staying near the surface and gasping air sounds like it’s not getting enough oxygen to me. That’s pretty common with prazi, I know you said you have a lot of aeration but maybe it’s not enough.

Yes.
Could very well be.
I've ran a dozen fish through this QT and haven't had an issue.
However, this clown could be the outlier.

Prazi will affect both appetite and oxygen and should be dosed at 85% of recommended with added air stone. I have a sneaky feeling the glycol content in prazi had adverse effect on the fish. Add air stone if you havent already and do slight water change to reduce the content and do not add any more for at least a week and change water on day 8

Oh wow!
Ya I definitely dosed at recommended dose.
Should I prepare for a 50% WC and add activated carbon to my canister?
Thanks

25% sufficient and add oxygen not yet carbon. You can however run skimmer if you have one with the cup off at least 3-5 days

Ok cool
I don't have a skimmer, but I already am running a very much oversized air pump with 2 large air stones.
I just watched a video of him moving about, buy he's all wobbly and still heavy breathing

The recommended dose is fine if you know the actual net volume of the tank. The 85% rate is used to offset displacement of rock/gravel, etc. if you don’t know the net volume.

Did the tank have good aeration?

This is possibly the issue seen with severe flukes - where the prazi knocks off many flukes, leaving open wounds and the fish starts to bleed out. There is no way around that though, if you don’t kill the flukes, the fish will die anyway. I experimented with trying to knock of some flukes with a low dose, letting the fish heal a few days and then dosing a full dose, but it is just guesswork.

Ah ok.
This is a bare bottom QT so no offset needed.

But yes, I feel the aeration was adequate.
2 large bubble streams, then the outlet of the canister filter is blowing put at the bubbles and creating ripples on the surface.

Can you post a short video or pics of the bubble streams you mention?
Added O2 very important

Prazipro suchs oxygen out of the tank. You basically have to move powerheads to the waterline.

You want to apply at 85% of recommended as this can be overdosed and it’s extremely important to add an airstone during use
Please post a lengthy video under white light intensity and do a 25% water change to reduce content of praziquantel

Doesn’t dosing at 85% run a large risk of over dosing if you have a lot of rock work? Would a single small air stone be enough over running the skimmer pump at a very low rate?

It’s a reduction and reason applying 85% opposed to 100%
