Hi Everyone,
It has been almost 20 years since my last saltwater aquarium and I was fortunate to not have to deal with any disease then. So, I was a little crushed when when my new clowns were not doing well.
After being in the aquarium about 8-10 days (day 1 was 2/20) I started seeing something on one clowns tail. I wasn't sure what was wrong but It just didn't look right. At that point I just observed. After a few more days his tail became sightly clamped and tattered, he lost color and developed what looked like a milky coating or dusting all over his body.
The second clown developed a small milky patch on his side. Both started behaving differently, darting about, strange swimming habits, etc. They both look better in the morning and worse by the end of the day.
Due to the milky look with a lack of spots I assumed Brook dismissing Ick and Velvet. I ordered Formalin and moved the two fish into a QT. The Formalin was delayed in shipping so I fresh water dipped them both then began treating with Metroplex. This was 3 days ago (3/5).
Fish 2 with the patch on his side has already cleared up and is acting normal again. Fish 1 has lost the milky coat but still looks like death. He spends most of his time swimming straight down in the bubbles from the air stone. He still looks and acts slightly better in the morning and much worse in the evening. He eats but not as much as fish 1.
At this point if it was Brook I assume they would have already perished.
I have attached some photos, his color is looking a little better this morning but his fins and behavior are still looking bad. I also think he looks like he is losing weight. A little bony looking especially around the face and head. I also think he nurses his right pectoral fin, sometimes it is clamped against his body and other times he uses it.
Any thoughts on what is going on and how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

Fish based in the tail is a victim of aggression and tail nipping and is a little discolored
While I don’t see presence of brook, to safeguard - add ruby rally pro which covers an array of issues and safe for coral and inverts

Skip metro which is not for this, must be used precise by weight and makes food taste bitter to many fish
Ruby works well on it’s own- apply every 3 days

My fish must be bitter fish. They eat it up without any issues. I can put food dipped with it and without it at the same time. They will gobble it up no problem.

As for tasting bitter can’t say since I have not tried it myself. Haha. Kidding.

Metronidazole needs to be dosed carefully - 1 to 2% in the food by weight. Some fish start spitting out the food above 1%. Dipping food in metro doesn't give a controlled dose - it washes off just as fast as it soaks in. Better to bind the metro with the food using Focus or even agar or gelatin.

It works wonders for my fish. Has yet to fail me. But will take your post into consideration for sure.

My brother just recently had one of his FW peacock bass really do bad. Wasn’t eating scales started looking bad. Mixed in metro with food and in two days he’s eating like a pig again.
