Clown Pairing Trouble - New matchup ldeas?

I’m having some trouble pairing up my clown. The first one either jumped out or got fished out by my cat (I have a lid now) but the second one I got was bullied to death I’m assuming. I thought it was normal for them to get at each other but I guess it was too much. I’ve gotten ones smaller but I’m thinking maybe they’re still too close in size? I’m thinking about just leaving it in there alone for a couple months and then getting one way way way smaller. Any ideas? Also thinking about maybe getting two different ones. Like pairing a misbar with my davinci.

how big are they? It’s okay to get them at the same size when they’re small.

Wait for the single transition to female then add the smallest male you can find. I've not lost one doing it that way. Adding small ones together and letting them sort it out often works but also can end up with a dead fish as you've already experienced.
