Hi all, I just got home tonight and my Clownfish pair both have bad eyes. I am hoping someone can suggest appropriate treatment for them. I have just fired up my HT so can have that online in a day or two.

Here are the pictures - the female is the worst, in the right eye, the male not as bad, and in the left eye. My tank is a 65g RSR250, 18 months old. Clowns are 17 months old, were first inhabitants.

Parameters as tested yesterday Salinity 1.0240, Alk 8.1, Ca 420, Mg 1600 (been high for 2+ months, are reducing Mg dosing to bring it down), NO4 1, PO4 0.04 ppm. I dose Aquaforest 3 part solution and use Aquaforest Reef salt. Mixed reef tank, 4 other fish, a few inverts, light coral load.

Erythromycin (Maracyn) is good for eye infections as well. You can also dose plain epsom salt (careful to find one with no scents or additives) 1Tbs per 5 gallons, to help with the swelling.

I would also check for flukes by performing a 5-minute fw dip, as I highly suspect the infections could be secondary to parasites since both clowns seem affected.

Hi all, just an update on my clowns. I moved them to the HT 12 days ago and treated them with Metroplex and Kanaplex, as well as Voogle every 2 days. I changed 25% of the water before the treatment on days 3 & 5. I followed the Kanaplex instructions and only dosed 3 times, days 1, 3 and 5. By then nearly all symptoms were gone, so I dosed Metroplex and Voogle on day 7 and did not WC - no Ammonia issues present. By then I could see no further evidence of the infection, so monitored until day 12 and on Sat moved them back to the DT. They have now been there 36 hours and are looking good, even back to their Torch coral they like ‘hosting’.

Thank you all for the suggestions!

It certainly didn’t cause me any issues.

My male clown re-developed a couple of spots after a few days back in the DT, and as they weren’t getting better after a week I put him back in the QT and re-dosed Voogle, Kanaplex and Metroplex. Day 1 all three, day 4 WC and all three, day 6 WC and all three, day 8 Voogle and Metroplex. By day 12 he was looking perfect so he went back in the DT. No issues ever since.

I was worried about his mate forgetting about him whilst he was gone, as it was the first time they had ever been apart, but she didn’t and gave him a very warm welcome when he came back!
